The most common promotion types can also be built using the Promotions Wizard.

Buy one, get one 50% off

Start by entering your basic promotion campaign information.  In this example, the promotion will be Buy 2 pottery items, get 50% off of 1 of them.

Next, set up your Qualifiers.

In this example, the qualifiers are going to be any items from the Pottery Department.  Set your Qualifier Type to Item Quantity, and give it a description.  The Minimum Quantity will be set to 2, because the customer will be buying 2, and getting 50% off of one of them.  Once your items, departments and/or categories are selected, click Add Qualifier.

Next, set up your Reward.

Select your reward type.  In this example it will be a Percent Discount on Item(s), then give it a description.  Your Discount (either % or $) will be the amount of discount you want to apply.  Then select the amount of items that will receive the discount.  In this example, only 1 item will receive the 50% off.  This promotion is to buy any item from the Pottery department and get a 2nd one 50% off, so check the "Apply Reward/Discount to Qualifying Items" box, so that it will apply the discount to one of the qualifying items purchased, then click Add Reward, and SAVE your promotion.

Buy 3, get item X free

Start by entering your basic promotion campaign information.  In this example, the promotion will be Buy 3 pairs of jeans, get a shirt for free.

Next, set up your Qualifiers.

For this example, select Item Quantity for your Qualifier Type, then enter a brief description.  In the Minimum Quantity field, enter the total number of items that must be purchased to get the reward.  In this example, the total quantity will be 3.  Select your items, departments and/or categories and click Add Qualifier.

Next, add your Reward.

Select Free Item as the Reward Type and enter a brief description.  In the Amount Field enter the number of free items the customer will receive.  For this example it will be 1 free shirt.  Then select the items you want to be free when the qualifier is met.  Once your items, departments and/or categories are selected, click Add Reward.

Spend $100, get $10 off the transaction

Start by entering your basic promotion campaign information.  In this example, the promotion will be Spend $100.00, and get $10.00 off the entire transaction.

Next, set up your Qualifier.

For this example, the Qualifier Type will be Transaction Total, then enter a brief description.  The Minimum ($) field will be the amount that must be spent to get the reward.  In this case, it's $100.00, then click Add Qualifier.

Next, set up your Reward.

Select Transaction Fixed Discount as the Reward Type and enter a brief description.  In the Discount ($) field, enter the amount of the transaction discount.  For this example, it's $10.00.  Then click Add Reward.

Quantity Discounts (same item only)

Quantity Discounts will only apply to purchases of the exact same item.  Start by entering your basic promotion campaign information.

Next you will add your Quantity Discount Tiers and the items it will apply to.  You can select multiple items, however the discount will only apply if the quantity is of the SAME item.

Select your category and/or specific items and start adding your tiers.  In this example, there are candy bars on a quantity discount.  So if a customer buys 2 Snickers, they will receive a 5% discount on each.  If they buy 5 Reese's Peanut Butter Cups they will get a 10% discount on each.  If a customer buys 12 or more of the same item, they will receive a 20% discount on each of them.  Once all of your tiers have been entered, click SAVE.

Percent or Dollar amount off a set of items

Promotions allows you to give a percentage or dollar amount off of an item or set of items, and be tracked using the discount reason code within reports.  Start by entering your basic promotion campaign information

Be sure to select "Apply Discount First" and Additional Discounts Allowed for Qualifiers.  If you want to allow additional discounts on your reward items, in this example, books, select Rewards as well under Additional Discounts Allowed.

Next, enter your Qualifier information.  For this promotion, the qualifier is to spend a penny, this will include your rewards items.  Then click Add Qualifier.

Next, you will enter your Reward information.  Select Percent or Fixed Discount on Item(s), enter the description, the percent or dollar amount off, and the quantity of items you want to allow the discount on.  Then select your items.  You can select your items as specific items, entire departments or categories, suppliers, or by tags.  Then select Add Reward.

Coupon Promotions

Coupons can be used as a reward or a qualifier.  Below are examples of each.

Coupon as a Reward

Create a promotion like above, setting your start and end dates, locations, and promotion type.  In this example, we will use a transaction total as the qualifier.  You can set it to give the coupon when you spend a total dollar amount, or a dollar amount on certain items, or even a quantity of items.  The coupon will then be good for a future purchase.

Under Rewards, select Coupon as the reward type, then select the coupon you imported.  Once you have selected your coupon, click Add Reward.

Once your Qualifier and Reward have been added, click SAVE.

Redeeming a Coupon

To set up a coupon redemption promotion, create a promotion like above, setting your start and end dates, locations, and promotion type.  This time, the coupon will be the qualifier.  Select Item Quantity as the Qualifier Type, enter the Description, and quantity required (for coupons, this will be 1).  Then select "Add Specific Item(s)" and search for your Coupon Item that was created.  Once selected, click Add Qualifier.

This type of promotion requires that the coupon be added to the transaction to receive the reward.

Under your rewards, select the reward type.  In this example, we are giving a 20% discount (or a dollar amount) to the entire transaction.  You can also give the discount to only certain items by selecting Fixed or Percent Discount on Item(s).  Once the reward has been added, click SAVE.

Coupon Promotions can exclude certain items from qualifying or receiving the reward.  To add items to exclude, enter those under the Exclusions tab.
